Who are you callin’ a cream puff?

12-done

‘Cream Puff’ is not just a wimpy or sissy person. It is also a pastry that is filled with cream and topped with an assortment of things, like chocolate, caramel, ice cream, icing sugar and fresh fruit.

Miguel’s Rice

10-done

This is one of Miguel’s favorite dishes that I cook for him. He eats an enormous amount of it, there is barely enough left over for his lunch the next day. He douses it with vinegar which kinda offended me at first but now I would not eat mine any other way.

This is a quick and easy dish could be used as a side dish but I think it is hearty enough to serve on its own with crusty rolls or bread.

But that’s not what this post is about. It’s about bread.

There is no better smell than the smell of oven-fresh homemade bread. I have tried bread a few times and found that the process was long and lots of hard work. And even though the end result was down right delicious I kept thinking why bother. I could just go to the bakery and pick up a loaf when the craving hit me.

Then I stumbled upon a recipe that made just one loaf pretty easily.

Caldo Verde

11-bowl

Caldo Verde is a traditional Portuguese soup, with many variations and styles.  The basic soup has potatoes, onions, and kale, though these are rarely the only ingredients.  It is common to add garlic, salt, pieces of stew beef,  pork loin, or chouriço.   Xavier calls it “Green Soup.”

Miguel likes a lot of chouriço.  He sometimes makes chouriço sandwiches for breakfast.  So even though most recipes say that each bowl of Caldo Verde should have exactly one bit of chouriço, I tend to load it up.
